On this page you’ll find links to other issues that are of interest to the Bronte community. These community groups are separate to Save Bronte.
Bring back the 378 - the Bring Back the Bronte Bus Working Group has formed in an effort to have the 378 Bronte to the City bus route re-instated. Many Bronte locals are inconvenienced, in cost and time, by having to change forms of public transport at Bondi Junction. Public transport needs to be made easy and convenient if we are to get cars of the road. See here for details of their latest event.
St Catherine’s proposed development- St Catherine’s School Waverley obtained approval for their major redevelopment from the NSW Dept of Planning and Environment. This is another big development along Macpherson St which will have significant impacts on parking and traffic in Bronte. Please contact the Save Charing Cross group at their website here
Waverley Bowling Club – proposed re-development at Birrell St. The East Group had wanted to shut down the Bowlo and redevelop this important green open space and community gathering place. As population density in our neighbourhood becomes higher and higher, we need more green space not less. The proposal was defeated by the members in 2017. Watch this space. See http://www.savewaverley.org for details and like them on Facebook here
West Oxford Street - A spot rezoning (planning proposal) to more than double both the height limit and allowable floor area at the west end of Oxford Street opposite the bus depot. Our Waverley Council voted against this rezone but it has been appealed to the Department of Planning and Environment .
Wellington St Tennis Courts – Our friends at Rescue Bondi are fighting a developer at the 105 Wellington St Bondi tennis courts. They have had the same experience as us i.e. developer’s rezone request rejected by Waverley Council only to have the Dept of Planning step in for the developer. It’s another loss of open space in our local area. Please support them at their website here and Facebook here
Waverley Cemetery - The Residents for Waverley Cemetery are involved in future planning for the cemetery. Please contact them for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org
